Normal stock has a published 100-day free period; abnormal goods have a different clock. Compare waiting, paid storage and the dated ¥18 pre-pack option against your actual items and route.

The storage clock starts when an item's status becomes in storage. Kakobuy emails a reminder at day 90. Abnormal packages, those whose status is Signed for but which could not be processed normally, get 60 days. After the free period the help article says goods are treated as abandoned and destroyed.
A promotional page elsewhere on the site advertises a longer free period. Use the shorter 100-day published help rule as a planning limit and confirm the date shown for your own inventory.
Kakobuy's own example uses EMS to the United States, priced at 160 yuan for the first 500 g, 55 yuan per extra 500 g, plus a 4 yuan operation fee. Three items of 500 g, 1200 g and 2100 g sent separately cost 822 yuan. Sent together as one 3800 g parcel they cost 549 yuan. The saving is the two first-weight charges you did not pay.
The example shows the logic, not today's prices. The example cannot establish today’s cheapest option. Separate parcels may repeat first-weight and packing charges, while a combined parcel may trigger a different size band or restriction. If a second order is already on its way, compare the expected saving with storage deadlines, any unresolved return and the combined parcel’s restrictions.
If you need longer than 100 days, Kakobuy sells an extension: ¥10 per order (OG number) for each 30 days, billed in 30-day steps. Add it from your warehouse page with the order number; the article gives a 24-hour confirmation target, not proof that your extension has been accepted. The extension article describes a 30-day cooling-off process after the free period, during which submission is restricted. Treat that as a policy description, not a guaranteed extra storage allowance or a promise of recovery; confirm the item’s actual status with support before expiry.
The price changed during 2026: an earlier copy of the same article priced the extension per 100 days, the current one per 30 days. Read the live article before you rely on a figure, and buy the extension before day 100, not after the reminder email has already gone.
Waiting has a ceiling of a different kind. Kakobuy warns that parcels over 10 kg are more likely to be treated as commercial by customs, and that many identical items in one parcel can trigger the same judgement. Neither mixing different products nor dividing identical items across parcels settles their actual commercial purpose.
The same article confirms the flexibility that makes decision 5 possible: any items marked Can submit waybill can go together or in batches. Ask about parcel-size and route limits before splitting a haul. Neither a weight below 10 kg nor multiple boxes guarantees non-commercial customs treatment.
Default vs switch
Without pre-packing, Kakobuy charges freight on the weight of the goods when they entered the warehouse. The warehouse packs within 24 hours of your waybill. If the packed parcel weighs less, the difference returns to your balance; if more, it is deducted, and a parcel with too little balance waits until you pay.
Pre-packing turns that correction into a known number before you commit. You can buy it after submitting the parcel (quote the S number) or before (quote the OG numbers), and you can add packing instructions such as removing shoe boxes. The packed weight comes back by order message.
A cheaper safeguard sits on the same form. Parcel photos are free, but only if you tick them when submitting the parcel. You get three: the items before sealing, the sealed parcel, and the parcel on the scale for actual-weight lines (or two sealed views for volume lines). Unticked means no photos.
Pre-packing earns its ¥18 when weight decides the line. The US EUB line, for example, has a 2 kg actual weight limit and accepts estimates up to 2150 g; above that you must pick another line. Knowing the packed weight first saves a failed submission.
Two weights appear on your screens and they are not the same. Product weight is the goods alone. Package weight is the goods plus packing materials. Freight is first collected on product weight and then settled on package weight, which is why a balance that looked sufficient can come up short after packing.
Keep a small buffer in your balance when you submit. A parcel with an unpaid shortfall may remain pending; the actual status, rather than an assumed flight schedule, tells you whether it can proceed.
Put it into practice
Review the arrived item now. Its seller-remedy window is independent of the missing item’s dispatch and of the storage allowance. If the arrived item is wrong, ask for the remedy before deciding whether to combine the orders; waiting for a complete haul should not postpone a time-sensitive request.
If the arrived item is acceptable, compare two plans: ship it with the eligible line now, or wait and obtain a fresh quote for the combined package. Keep the late seller’s estimate separate from a confirmed arrival date. Only choose pre-packing once the intended contents and any requests to keep boxes or tags are clear.
