Decision 9 on Kakobuy: what the customs declaration says, and who stands behind it

On duty-free lines Kakobuy handles it. On every other line the declaration is yours to defend, and the paperwork you can get is narrower than most people expect.

Decision 9: who declares, and what it costs you

09

Declaration

Default
On duty-free lines Kakobuy declares and helps the carrier clear customs.
Switching costs
On non-tax-free lines, clearance costs fall on you, and customs may ask for invoices.
Worth switching when
Never in the direction of a false value. Choose the line type with the declaration in mind.

Kakobuy's clearance instructions are short. Non-tax-free routes: the user pays clearance costs, and if customs finds the parcel special, because it is large, heavy or sensitive, it contacts the recipient for invoices. For its duty-free-labelled routes, the article describes clearance assistance and a reimbursement process. Confirm eligibility and required documentation for your particular route.

The sentence to remember is the reminder at the end: for purchased goods, proof of payment for customs is a screenshot of the payment order only, not an invoice. If your customs office needs a different document, ask Kakobuy and the seller what can be supplied before shipping; a route label does not replace required paperwork.

The route table and the banned generic names

Kakobuy publishes declaration guidance per route as a single image table, uploaded in 2022 and still online. It sets limits such as 140 USD per package on EUB lines, and spells out per-country ceilings on others.

The same table bans ten generic commodity names: sample, gift, personal effect, cloth, box-bag, seed, model, plastic, goods and accessory, "and other general names". Describe what is in the box: "cotton hoodie", "leather belt", "wireless earbuds".

Kakobuy warns that a false declared value, once customs finds it, means the goods are returned, with a fine if the case is serious. The image was uploaded in 2022 but includes older threshold figures. Do not use it as a statement of current customs law or as a value to copy into your declaration.

Tax numbers and the parcel that comes back

Some countries will not release a parcel without a tax identification number. Kakobuy's notice of March 2025 gives formats for Chile (RUT) and Brazil (CPF for people, CNPJ for companies), and says parcels without one may be delayed or returned. Put it in the address before you submit, not after the parcel stalls.

Returned parcels have a short list of causes in Kakobuy's own words: a parcel that still exceeds the line's size limit after compression, a carrier refusal, an address or clearance problem at destination, and a missing or wrong recipient phone number. Three of the four are decided on the submission form.

EU parcels after July 1, 2026

Kakobuy’s June 23, 2026 notice describes an EU low-value parcel duty change effective July 1 and says it charges only €3 per parcel however many categories are inside, collected with the shipping cost, and that it may withdraw this with notice.

A second notice on July 1 says its EU duty-free lines continue and include all applicable taxes and duties, with no separate declaration or duty payment needed. For an EU first order, confirm the selected line’s current terms and any recipient action before relying on that dated notice.

US tax-free routes and the threshold table

Kakobuy's US notice of April 2025 introduced tax-free routes and said that non-tax-exempt routes require users to clear customs themselves. Tax-free routes cost roughly $5 to $10 more per package than USPS.

The help centre also carries a country threshold table with figures such as US 800 USD, UK 15 GBP and EU 22 EUR. Kakobuy labels it "collected from the Internet data, only for your reference", and several values are years out of date. Do not use it to decide your declared value.

The threshold table, with its own warning

Here is the table as Kakobuy shows it, eleven rows from the United States to Australia. The page above it claims that only 0.3% of packages have been taxed so far. Neither figure is dated, and several threshold rows are historical rather than current guidance.

Put it into practice

Prepare accurate details before submission

  1. Describe what each item is, its quantity and a truthful value backed by your purchase records. Do not copy an old route table’s suggested amount into an unrelated shipment.
  2. Match the recipient name, address, phone and any required tax identification to the destination’s current requirements.
  3. If the declaration fields and route instructions conflict, ask support before submitting. A route labelled tax-free still has eligibility conditions and customs checks.
